Examining Cross-Cultural Applicability via Generalizability Theory

چکیده
Applying a measurement instrument developed in specific country to other countries raise critical and important question of interest especially cross-cultural studies. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) is the most preferred used method examine applicability tools. Although CFA sophisticated technique investigate various equivalence types (structural, metric, scalar alike.), it has some limitations. In light classical test theory, when tool not invariant between countries, what factors contribute error variance become unclear. Also, reveals little as how dimensionality relevant affects invariance. Hence, fundamental focus this study comparability or for different on an international assessment using generalizability theory (G-theory) educational science With multi-faceted design, contribution examined, well. For illustration purposes, eight scales from PISA 2012 student questionnaire dataset related attitudes towards mathematics are used. The based data Türkiye, Finland USA. unbalanced designs performed G String IV. conclusion, almost all results supported research expectations. From estimations G-theory, can be rightly deduced cross-nationally these findings.

The current study examined the factor structure of the Cross-Cultural Adaptability Inventory (CCAI) to better understand the psychometric properties of this instrument. Subsequent to the current study, the CCAI, which was developed to provide a selfinventory of an individual’s cultural adaptability, had limited study of its measurement characteristics. Therefore, the structure was examined usin...
متن کاملA Study on Cross-cultural and Cross-dataset Generalizability of Music Mood Regression Models
The goal of music mood regression is to represent the emotional expression of music pieces as numerical values in a low-dimensional mood space and automatically predict those values for unseen music pieces. Existing studies on this topic usually train and test regression models using music datasets sampled from the same culture source, annotated by people with the same cultural background, or o...
متن کامل36 Generalizability Theory
Generalizability (G) theory is a statistical theory for evaluating the dependability (or reliability) of behavioral measurements (Cronbach, Gleser, Nanda, & Rajaratnam, 1972; see also Brennan, 2001; Shavelson & Webb, 1991). G theory permits the researcher to address such questions as: Is the sampling of tasks or judges the major source of measurement error? Can I improve the reliability of the ...
